TOP COACHES EYEING STARS JOB

By ODINDO AYIEKO - Dailly Nation, posted Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 20:41

Algerian Amrouche and Spanish Raoul Savoy have already expressed interest in Kenya post.

Barely a week after Frenchman Henri Michel walked out on Harambee Stars, the coaching position has already attracted many tacticians.

Algerian Adel Amrouche and Spanish Raoul Savoy have shown interest in the job as the Football Kenya Federation monitors Michel’s situation.

FKF chairman Sam Nyamweya says Michel’s resignation letter is yet to reach his desk and he will only act once he gets full details regarding Michel’s decision to quit his job just four month after he was appointed.

“We will only move on once I get Michel’s resignation letter. For as far as I am concerned now, Michel is still coach as per the contract he signed. I am yet to get his resignation letter nor his notice to quit in lieu of the contract,” said Nyamweya. “Once I get that, we shall look elsewhere for a replacement. The national team cannot operate in vacuum and that is why we appointed James Nandwa to take the team to Burundi for the Africa Nations Championships,” added the FKF boss.

Both Amrouche, a former coach of the Burundi national soccer team and Savoy who has coached the Ethiopian national team had applied and were shortlisted for the Stars job when it was advertised but the job was given to Michel.

But they are once again showing interest (…)

Meanwhile Raoul Savoy says Kenya needs to get a good yet affordable coach like him.

“I knew Michel’s demands were going to be very high. I do believe I can do a better job for a very affordable fee. Money should not be an issue,” said Savoy.

“I know the Africa football terrain well and I can manage the Harambee Stars very well. I hope FKF can give me the chance,” he added.

Harambee Stars continued training in preparation for the return leg match against Burundi in the qualifier for the Africa Nations Championships.

Gor Mahia’s Rama Salim has opted out of the team as he is travelling to Finland for trials. The return leg will be played in Nairobi on January 5.
